Originally from central Massachusetts, Layne Willis is New York based freelance artist who graduated Magna Cum Laude from Roger Williams University (2018) under the Judge Thomas J. Paolino Theatre/Arts Scholorship. During her time in school, she was fortunate to work with a variety of multidisciplinary artists while training under Cathy Nicoli, France Hunter and Gary Shore. In addition to her education at RWU, Layne researched physical theatre and movement studies in London, England under Donna Meierdiercks and Katie Lusby. She has had the pleasure of performing work by Netta Yerushalmy, Christina Robson, Shawn Ahern, KJ Holmes, Alexander Davis Dance, Tiffany Mills, Hilary Easton, Urbanity Dance Company and the Bang Group. Layne has presented work at the Dance Complex in Boston, MA and her choreography has been adjudicated by the American College Dance Association. While establishing the connection between the architecture of the human body and the structure of the space surrounding us, Layne is interested in creating work that is physically enduring while communicating narrative through improvisational forms and various movement practices.
When Layne’s not dancing, she spends most of her time in her kitchen or exploring hole-in-the-wall restaurants in NYC. She recently moved from Rhode Island to Queens, NY and is excited to intern with Movement Research this season
