Layla Zami

Dr. Layla Zami is an interdisciplinary academic, artist, curator and globetrotter. Currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Performance + Performance Studies Graduate Program at Pratt Institute, Zami obtained a PhD at Humboldt-University in Berlin, as well as a Faculty Teaching Award for the course Performing Memory. As a Resident Artist with Oxana Chi, Layla Zami creates and performs music, spoken words and physical theater in dialogue with the choreography. The duo performed across the globe, and curated events for Dixon Place, The Center for the Humanities at CUNY, Berlin Technical University and the International Human Rights Art Festival. Born in Paris, Layla spent 15 years in Berlin, Germany, and is grounded in a rich Afro-Indian-Caribbean and Jewish-European-Russian cultural heritage.
