Emma Fitzsimmons is a dancer, Pilates teacher, and yoga instructor. She began Pilates at The Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists (Minnesota) to manage hyper-mobility, prevent injuries, and to refine technique in dance. While pursuing her Bachelor’s in Dance and International Studies at The University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point 13’, Emma began her formal Pilates training with Movement Analyst Amy Beversdorf. At this time, she also completed her 200-hour Yoga teaching certification at Core-Power Yoga. In 2014, Emma moved to NYC, completed her full Pilates certification under the direction of Lesley Powell. To augment her training, she studied with renowned anatomist Irene Dowd in kinesthetic anatomy, biomechanics, and movement analysis.
In 2018 Emma co-founded ZE MOVES, through which she offers sliding scale private sessions, group classes, and online Pilates tutorials for dancers. She also teaches corporate wellness for both WeWork and The C3 Method. In her years in New York City, Emma has taught over 25,000 people and has worked at several studios throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Emma continues to dance professionally and produce shows. She loves to be in nature, enjoys traveling to different countries, and makes a point to camp at least once a year. In her 9 years of teaching, she has continuously explored channels to lead students towards heightened embodiment including breath work, meditation, and natural movement styles. In class, Emma encourages deep focus and curiosity towards the mind and body in motion while emphasizing proper body mechanics in a light-hearted atmosphere.
