Donna Carnow is a Brooklyn-based movement artist, choreographer, performer, producer, pole dance champion, and teacher. Originally from the Chicago-land area, Donna holds a BFA in Dance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and graduated as a James Scholar with honors. During her time in the cornfields, Donna worked with Kendra Portier, Abby Zbikowski, Tere O’Connor, David Dorfman, the Jess Pretty Ballet, Jessie Young, Charli Brissey, and others.
Donna integrates her modern dance background with her current work as a pole dance artist and aerialist. She is a full-time instructor at Body & Pole where she teaches pole dancing, flexibility training, and handstands. Donna continues to develop her own choreographic work investigating the integration of both pole and contemporary dance vocabularies in ways that work to challenge expectations of both space and form through her prioritization of labor, duration, and physically rigorous tasks.
Donna holds the title of Pole Sport Organization Central Pole Champion of 2019 (Chicago, IL) and was ranked in the top 10 women competing in US Nationals (San Mateo, CA) that same year. Donna regularly performs with the aerial dance companies Pole Speak and AERA in New York City. She has also performed in Pole Expo’s “Pole Classique” at the Hard Rock Hotel (Las Vegas, NV), DROM (New York, NY), Pole Play NYC (Brooklyn, NY), Pole Theatre USA (Atlanta, GA), Bates Dance Festival (Lewiston, ME), Krannert Center for the Performing Arts (Urbana, IL), Links Hall (Chicago, IL), among others.
When not at Movement Research or flying in the air, Donna leads teacher training programs around the world as an ElevatED Master Trainer focused in pole dance and flexibility training instruction. Donna also teaches power vinyasa yoga (E-RYT 200) and holds a large role in leading CorePower Yoga's teacher training programs in NY. She specifically specializes in applied anatomy and physiology lectures.
