Clare Maxwell

Clare Maxwell came to NYC at the age of 17 and danced her ass off in the downtown dance community for 30 years, working with many different experimental choreographers, creating her own dance works, and touring as a performer, choreographer, and teacher. The Alexander Technique, encountered by accident in a dance class, taught her how to let go of self-destructive attitudes and training practices that almost derailed her career, and to replace them ones that were in harmony with her body’s actual design. She healed multiple injuries while still staying active professionally and was astonished at the growth in her technical skill and range. All this was possible without the toxic overthinking, overtraining, and overworking of the past.

The Alexander Technique became the foundation on which she built a sustainable career as an independent dance artist and embodiment educator.

After over three decades of study and two decades of teaching, however, she became frustrated with the lack of life-affirming motion in traditional Alexander Technique teaching and practice. She wants to help students apply the AT principles more freely to all movement. Clare created Mobile Body Alignment™ four years before the pandemic. Now it is taught worldwide by a growing group of teachers because it can be used easily in activity, on your feet, while interacting with others through public speaking, creative performing, or teaching, especially online.
