Christy Funsch

Christy Funsch founded Funsch Dance in 2002 in the Bay Area and presented eleven full-length concerts there. FD has also been presented in New York, Amsterdam, London, Portland, OR; Chicago, Phoenix, Tempe, Toronto, and throughout Virginia and California. Christy continues to enjoy rich collaborative partnerships with Nol Simonse, Julie Mayo, and Peiling Kao. She has also worked with Susan Rethorst, Stephen Pelton, Katie Faulkner, and many others. Christy holds an MFA from ASU and a Movement Analysis Certification through New York's Laban Bartenieff Institute for Movement Studies. She has taught at colleges and studios around the country, including at UC Berkeley, City College San Francisco, Hamilton College, James Madison University, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and Virginia Commonwealth University. Christy has been awarded residencies at Djerassi, U Cross, and Yaddo. She was a participating member of CHIME Across Borders with mentor Tere O’Connor for 2013. In 2014, she was named one of “25 to Watch” by Dance Magazine. In 2015, she became the first woman to be granted permission to learn and perform Daniel Nagrin’s iconic solo from 1965, Path. Christy will be a Fulbright Scholar at the Escola Superior de Dança in Lisbon, Portugal later this year.
