Anna Sperber
Anna Sperber is a Brooklyn-based choreographer and performer. Her work has been described by The New York Times as “immediately compelling” and “wonderfully strange” with “moments of theatrical magic.” Her performances are rooted in the poetic potency of choreography and its potential for perceptual transformation, embodying a tension between formality and chaotic wildness. Sperber’s work has been presented and commissioned by The Chocolate Factory Theater, The Joyce Theater’s UNLEASHED Series at New York Live Arts, The Kitchen, Gibney Dance, Baryshnikov Arts Center, and Dance Theater Workshop in New York City, as well as by the American Dance Festival in Durham, NC. She has been an artist in residence as a Schonberg Fellow at Dance The Yard, Bogliasco foundation, Marble House Project, The MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, Center for Performance Research, Gibney Dance DiP, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, LMCC, and Movement Research. As a performer, she has worked with many New York-based choreographers including luciana achugar, Isabel Lewis, and Juliette Mapp. Sperber was a co-founder of classclassclass and has taught as a guest artist at American Dance Festival, Movement Research, Gibney Dance, Hunter College, George Washington University, and Wayne State University. Sperber founded and runs Sunset Space, a studio and intimate performance space in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
