alyssa denay carter

alyssa (b. 1996) is an artist, performer, aspiring herbalist and birth worker based in Brooklyn. Alyssa weaves “skins” to be worn, performed in, and displayed. With these exos’s she examines embodiment and performance of intersecting identities using both weaving & printmaking techniques to explore the concept of bodies rooted in spaces and places rooted in bodies—inherited cultural memory—joy, resilience, transitions, and means of self-preservation, ancestral strength and knowledge.

alyssa’s obsession with skin extends to peeling dried glue off her hands. She is also passionate about nature connection, being big spoon, and her beaded handbag and pouch collection.
