Rachel Bernsen is a dance artist originally from Minneapolis, now based in Brooklyn. Her work has been shown at Dance Theater Workshop as a 2005/06 Fresh Tracks artist-in-residence, Issue Project Room, Body Blend at Dixon Place, Movement Research at the Judson Church, Chashama, The Brick Theater, and Deitch Projects. She is a 2007 recipient of an NEA Honorary Fellowship to the Djerassi Resident Artists Program in Woodside, CA. Bernsen has collaborated extensively with composer and performer Taylor Ho Bynum. Their work has been shown at The Free Music Festival in Belgium, and in Germany. In NYC they’ve performed at various venues including Dixon Place, Chashama, Chez Bushwick, and the Cornelia Street Café. Bernsen also danced with the band Fischerspooner from 2002-2006. Bernsen will receive her certification as an Alexander Technique Teacher in June 2008 and is an Associate Editor of the Movement Research Performance Journal. Bernsen holds an MFA in Dance from NYU, Tisch School of the Arts and a BA in English Literature from Macalester College.
