Ringing Rocks: a day-long sound-movement excursion to Pennsylvania

In rural Bucks County, Pennsylvania, just west of the Delaware River, sits The Ringing Rocks Park. The park is a mile-long bare field of boulders made of a substance called diabase and is the largest such deposit in North America. Diabase is the igneous rock equivalent of volcanic basalt, has a high concentration of iron, and, what's more, the rocks ring when you hit them. Families from all over the country come to the park on weekends, sporting hammers and hunting the field for rocks that ring like bells. Visiting the field involves a commitment to climb, to explore, to use your whole body to traverse the rough terrain in search of sonic gold. From dull thuds to shimmery chimes, Ringing Rocks is about exploration of the physical world at the juncture between action and reaction, between work and reward. We'll spend the day exploring the sonic and physical strangeness of this geologic wonder.

What to bring: well fitting shoes (as the rock field has no flat space whatsoever and many rocks with hard edges), and a hammer (to make the rocks ring you'll need something to hit them with!). Pack a picnic lunch too.

"Populous by AUNTS" is the controlled management of nine separate but simultaneous performances. Delineated by markings on the floor, the edges of the space are parceled off for each performance, with the center parcel designated for the audience. Each performance is allowed unlimited construction of movement, sound, light, and energy within its parcel, within the hour.
