David Luther is a Brooklyn-based musician originally from Traverse City, Michigan. Mainly a saxophonist, he also plays keyboards, bass, flute, clarinet, guitar, and sings. He has performed with a wide variety of musicians, including Dr. Lonnie Smith, Reuben Wilson, Jimmy McGriff, Seleno Clarke, Bettye Lavette, The Temptations, Dennis Edwards, Clarence Clemmons, and Stephen Rush. Until its closure, he subbed regularly on the Broadway show Movin' Out. In the fall of 2006, he joined Meat Loaf's band playing saxophone and keyboards, just in time for a world tour in support of Bat Out Of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose. He appears on the concert DVD Meat Loaf – 3 Bats Live, as well as Meat Loaf: To Hell And Back, a tour documentary. When not on the road, David focuses on a handful of personal projects, several of which explore his love for r&b and soul music and the story thereof, most notably The Stick-Ups, a band dedicated to conveying the energy of rhythm and blues and early rock through covers and original compositions.
