Melanie Maar is a New York based dance artist, born in Vienna, Austria. Maar was a 2005/2006 Movement Research Artist in Residence and is part of an exchange residency with Denmark through MR in June 2008. She recently moved into her new space in Brooklyn where dance is happening. She is practicing qui kung and is teaching integrative movement. Maar is currently drawn to create dances that synchronize the odd and open questions about perceiving the dance that the moves emit. Her work has been performed in various venues in New York and Europe. One of her pieces continues to be performed at movement disorder conventions throughout Europe and the US since 2005 and led her into the study of neuroscience. As a dancer Maar has worked with choreographer luciana achugar for several years, as well as for RoseAnne Spradlin, Daria Faïn, Kate Weare, Luis Lara Malvacias, and Levi Gonzalez.
