MELT - Morning Class
This movement class will develop from simple skeletal mobility sequences to full-out movement forms. Emphasis will be placed on the joints, examining how range of motion relates to alignment, support, weight, pathway and qualitative detail in the course of movement. We will consider the inherent lines in the body’s anatomy as the basis for movement material in a full range – from natural to designed, pleasing to provocative.

MELT - An Eco-poetic Approach to Dance Improvisation and Performance
This is a movement workshop that focuses on the development of our poetic sensibilities in conjunction with our capacities to attune to the nested ecological worlds we live in. My approach is based upon the interweaving of technical training with perceptual training and aesthetic research. I view composition and performance as ecologically rooted acts. Movement, culture, politics, stories, images and gestures are imbedded in the relationships that are evolving all around us. Come ready to dance, perceive, perform and imagine.

MELT - before we know: Approaches to Creative Practice, Choreography and Performance
The idea is not the thing. Each of us is an ever-shifting complex of radically divergent memories, desires, impulses and perceptions. This is a lab for cultivating multiple considerations on multiple levels, put into conscious action and practice. Accepting not-knowing as a generative state, we’ll sharpen our responsiveness to emergent materials, then fluidly develop strategies and systems for immersion in and reflection of inherent structures. We’ll generate, reconsider, translate and reinterpret: action, affect, content and context through daily performance. At the core is the willingness to think/move/imagine in unanticipated directions.

MELT - Experiencing Technique
We will focus on the volume and weight inside the body and its relationship to the floor, bringing awareness to the feet, spine, and pelvic floor, encouraging the feeling of release in the limbs, allowing us to fall and suspend off-center, with a grounded, flexible base of support. With this sensitivity we will explore sensation, instinct, inherent musicality inside the body. All the while dancing, finding direct approaches to movement.

MELT - Studio Practices: Touch Move Talk Write
Moving, talking, touching, writing are the means of putting questions into practice. The practices are organized in different sequences and durations, producing new perspectives daily. Each participant should bring their experience and knowledge to feed these practices. This is a place for conversation about what is happening in dance, in choreography, and in our studio practice, right now. Please also bring a notebook.

MELT - WHAT IS THIS CLASS
Old school technique class with new school questions. This is a warm-up for being a contemporary dance artist whatever that means. Real techniques, invented techniques, practicing presence, practicing hope, “releasingâ€, sweating, thinking, feeling, moving for no reason and finding out how. I aspire to offer you ways of approaching dancing without fucking your body up. Each day will begin with a Feldenkrais Method® Awareness Through Movement ® lesson. Then standing things. Then a phrase. You know how this goes. Smart movers make good art. I am the teacher, and I will do what I can.

MELT - Alexander Technique: A Critical Practice
The Alexander Technique is a practice of inquiry that allows us to observe what is happening in the moment, identify habits that interfere with our ability to make conscious choices (even if the choice is to mine the unconscious), understand the physicality of thinking and teach ourselves. This workshop aims to introduce principles of the Alexander Technique and examine collective assumptions (and their accompanying sensations) of such concerns as strength, stability and mobility, as well freedom, creativity and desire, opening the body and brain to new information and refining the organization of the performing body and mind.

MELT - Composition/Physical Relationships
Through a series of improvisations and choreographic sketches, we will explore making dances as the process of creating a series of physical relations. The experiments will include the cultivation of bodily states through the use of imagery and partner work and structuring physical problems, which in turn affect our bodily state. Limitation will be examined as an integral part of composition. Through this, we will seek to develop work, which exhibits a personal and evocative language, contemporary cultural and social relevance, intelligence (in its various forms), and guts.
