Maggie Bennett

MAGGIE BENNETT is a dancer-choreographer based in New York City.  She has presented work at Dance Theater Workshop, Movement Research at Judson Memorial Church, Dixon Place, Merce Cunningham Studio Theater, Chashama Gallery and AUNTS at The Event Center. Maggie’s background includes post-modern dance and release techniques, modern dance including Limon and Cunningham technique, ballet, Ghanain dance, Contact Improvisation, Body Mind Centering, Pilates and other somatic practices.  In addition to choreographing, Maggie has danced in the works of other artists:  Jennifer Monson (2006-2008), Paul Matteson (2007), Vanessa Justice (2008 — present), Charlotte Gibbons (2008 — present), Karl Cronin/ Dry Earth (2008).  She deeply values the process of other artists with whom she works, as a source of inspiration and model for her own creative process, and as an opportunity to be directed and pushed beyond her own conceived experience of her dancing body.  Maggie is also a co-founder of Propel-her Dance Collective, a choreoghrapher’s collective who share administrative resources and support, and is a member of Cheap Cake, an improvisation/ spontaneous composition - research collective.  Maggie graduated from Connecticut College in 2005 with BAs in Dance and English.
